Labyrinth

This Wednesday, Angela and I found ourselves with a little extra time while waiting for a friend, so we, of course, decided to go for a walk. Our meandering led us to the labyrinth at First Church in West Hartford. This path is such a gift, as it is right in the middle of West Hartford Center, but passing through the short stone wall onto the church grounds, it feels like you have entered another world - even this past Wednesday, which was cold, and the grass was a dull memory of its green glory of the warmer days.

Time and again on the Camino this year, one of the pilgrims walking with us would talk about her love of the labyrinth. They were, after all, created for those people who did not have the means for one reason or another to do a longer pilgrimage to a holy site. It seemed so natural for us to find ourselves together walking a mini pilgrimage once again.

The experience was magical, especially walking it together, one after the other. We had times when we were right together and others when we seemed so far apart. We approached and walked along the center, only to be carried back to the outer edges. Back and forth, in and out, really no idea when we might find the center. But, like in life and in pilgrimage, we trusted the path. I enjoyed the parts where we were near each other, even though it was tight, and we had to shift a bit to make room, and, frankly, I felt a tinge of worry when we were apart. We did finally make it to the beautifully round center. And, standing there, we received the gift of a friendly greeting by a kind man passing by, followed by the welcome news that our friend was ready to meet us - another treasure.

Why, I wonder, is this my blog topic for today? I guess it was a little snapshot for me of friendship, trust, and also finding joy and miracles in pockets of every day. I hope that you, too, find that trust and following the path brings you joy as well.
