Practice!

You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes everyday - unless you’re too busy; then you should sit for an hour.
— Dr. Sukhraj Dhillon

Alas, you might be able to tell, since today’s blog is a day late, that I have had a very full life recently. This year is one of those years that has provided a lot of shift. Frankly, last Wednesday, I had been commenting to my class how the pace of life had gotten so quick, it was a bit dizzying, and then, on Friday, my plate got even more full. The details are really irrelevant, as we all have these times. Friday, I sat down and I simply wondered how I would get through the next few weeks with grace.

Of course, the answer is practice. My mind has a zillion details to iron out about a million little and big things. I need to be focused, I need to be healthy, I need to remain open to the joy of life, so, I practice.

In my life, practice means yoga, writing, reiki and medtiation. There is nothing more true than the above quote. So, this week, I have started each day with a longer period of practice. I would love to say that I have been perfectly successful and that my days have been opened with light and ease (which is often the case) but I will say that the days are better than they would be without the practice. Frankly, as I am writing this, I myself am realizing that in this busy time, morning practice is not enough. My mornings are, in fact open, but the afternoons get frantic. In this short few weeks when I have too many things on my to do list, I see that I will need to practice at least twice a day, maybe three times. I think, in fact, that this is so important that I will set an alarm on my phone to remind me!

How grateful I am to have these tools for open, light hearted living!

How would it be for you if you tried this too? When life gets busy, take some time for your expression of contemplative practice!
