New Year, New Life

By Angela Martin

New Year, New Life

I stretch my arms wide, as I walk on the path before me

Drinking in the bright sunlight and the arctic air

Billows of breath and my own light beaming forth

I am rejuvenated, born once again

Yes, there is a newness here

Can you feel it?

There is a change in this place and in me

An energy that fills my surroundings and my very being

I am reminded that

Life is rich with possibility and promise

That with my smile, I can shine my light

That by making time for others, I can share my love

That by extending my heart, I can spread kindness in this world

One soul touching another in our shared story

One step after another,

I am reminded that

I can shine a light on my own existence, too

That I can find the answers I seek

That I can transition from old life to new

That I can see differently from this vantage point

Who am I now?

Where do I go from here?

How do I live forth my truth?

I will walk,

I will pray,

And I will trust

Yes, trust, the hardest practice of all

And do so with a heart that is wide and open

And there – there, my friend, I will find the answers I seek

What say you brother pilgrim?

What will your New Year bring?

How will you tap the uncertainty and the freshness of this new birth?

How will you transform the spark of newness into your own brilliance?

How will you gain the courage to become your true self?

The world needs you to make this inquiry, to take this trek

Indeed we do
